Mistakes that this person made were using a debit card instead of a credit card and using the debit card for everything. Identity theft is common today because information is easily accessed by almost anyone. Documents and personal belongings that are needed to steal someone’s identity include social security number, address, credit/debit card number, and usernames and passwords. Ways that I think could protect someone from identity theft include not using any credit cards, only give personal information to the intended person (Ex: don’t give information to an assistant), and research who you are buying from before you buy. The person to blame in any identity theft is the person who stole the victim’s identity.
